The 6.7 Powers Stroke engine is a badass diesel V8 that requires no introduction. However, many of its users try to make improve it by deleting the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

You can do that too. But there are several 6.7 Powerstroke DPF delete problems that you have to keep in mind. These problems include difficulties in resale, legal troubles, adverse environmental effects, and miscellaneous engine problems.

For info about the delete, you can check this out. Let’s take a closer look at the concept and the troubles that it may bring.

6.7 Powerstroke DPF delete Problems

Many people delete their DPFs and they do it for a multitude of reasons. The first and most common reason is that it’ll increase the truck’s power output. This is because the truck’s turbo becomes more efficient and reliable. Other reasons include better fuel economy and better engine oil.

Reduction in resale value

This one’s expected with any sort of modification that one could make to their vehicle. It is a known fact that adding aftermarket parts to your car or modifying it will reduce its resale value.

In the case where your truck’s emissions are compromised, you may not be able to sell the vehicle at all. This is because many people will stay away from it as it won’t be able to pass an emissions test.

They’ll be afraid of driving a truck that the cops could pull over at any time. In fact, most people will straight away reject the truck as they’ll be unaware of what a DPF is in the first place.

The solution to this? You’ll have to reinstall any parts that you’ve removed and try to restore the truck back to the way it was. You should always modify your vehicle so that you’ll be able to restore it later with ease. Otherwise, prepare to sell the truck in some county with no emission laws.

Lose the manufacturer’s warranty

This is also one of the reasons why many stay away from DPF deletes and other types of engine mods. Your car manufacturer’s (Ford’s in this case) warranties (limited and powertrain) will be voided once you start changing up your vehicle. This is a problem when repairs are getting more and more expensive every year.

The warranty always provides the owner with a sigh of relief whenever there’s a pricey breakdown or repair on the schedule. Even newer trucks can malfunction and you’ll be better off with coverage.

Even worse, it is a huge possibility that an official Ford dealership may even refuse to work on your vehicle. This has happened to many people with the dealers stating that they won’t work on an altered vehicle. So, this could be a problem if you don’t trust regular mechanics that easily.

Emissions issues

It is always great to modify your vehicle but the whole experience can turn sour when law enforcement is behind you. This is a problem with tunings such as DPF and cat deletes.

Emissions in the US and in many places around the world are a serious issue. As a result, there are many emission laws that would like to have a word with you if you’re considering a DPF delete.

You won’t be passing any emission tests and the EPA will be on your tail for good. This is one of the primary reasons why all deletes are becoming difficult. Delete must be a DIY So, what happens when the DPF delete process is termed illegal?

Registered tuning facilities won’t entertain your DPF delete request. It will be very difficult to find someone who’s willing to get their hands dirty as their business could be in jeopardy if you get caught.

As a result, you’ll have to do the job by yourself. You’ll need the equipment and most importantly, the know-how. You’ll need a tuner capable of the deletion process which is an expensive turn-off to the process. Unless you’re a gearhead, this will demotivate you quite a bit.

Bad environmental effects

Now this one’s quite a consideration, especially if you love the environment. Emission laws exist for a reason and they aim to protect the atmosphere from pollution. Removing your DPF will lead to the exhaust gases not being filtered. This will produce harmful pollutants from your exhaust.

The result is that you’ll be causing breathing issues to anyone who inhales the smoke from your vehicle. In addition to ruining the air quality, you will be contributing to the greenhouse effect.

So, as a good Samaritan, it is important that you reconsider the DPF delete.

Performance issues

We’ve talked about the positives of deletion above. Now, let’s talk about what could go wrong with your truck. Those who’ve had their DPFs delete have stated that they’ve received warnings and errors from the truck’s system.

Some of them have said that their truck even refused to start. Other miscellaneous issues include leaks from the vacuum pump or a leaking oil line under the turbo. While these are minor issues (apart from the refusal to start), they do exist.
