In this article, I am going to compare the two Ford f150 trims and share more insights on the main differences and some of the similarities between the two to help you understand which one is better suited for your needs.

Without a doubt, the Ford F150 is one of those unmistakable, iconic trucks from Ford. It has close to a 50-year history throughout which it has been a top seller.

With the continued evolution of the F150, partly in response to the growing needs of consumers and technological advancement, Ford has continuously brought about newer, better innovations.

This is the case with the F150 XL and XLT. Though they may not appear to be much of a difference between them at first glance, there are some distinctions which we are going to be exploring in this post.

Differences Between the Ford F150 XL and XLT

First of all, let’s look at what is different between the 2 trims.

The core difference is, the XLT has all the optional features of the XL included as standard. Naturally, this makes the price of the XLT higher. Though it has fewer standard features included in it, the XL still packs a host of features that will easily outdo anything else on the market in its class.

The XLT includes a 12-inch touchscreen that offers split-screen capability. It also has the SYNC 4 feature that allows for voice recognition.

You can also program driving and safety restrictions using the Ford MyKey option. This allows you to set maximum speed, maximum s=audio volume, and other safety-related functions.

These options are available in the XLT and higher trims. The XL model comes with an 8-inch touch screen, driver assisting tech, rearview camera, and more.

It is no slouch. If we were to summarise the basic differences between these two vehicles, the XLT provides more comfort and luxury `than the XL while the XL offers great value for money while still offering a great feature set.

Similarities Between the Ford F150 XL and XLT

Now, let’s look at the similarities between these trims of the F150. Both vehicles come with rear-wheel drive with the option to upgrade to 4-wheel drive.

They come with the 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 engine. The XLT does have the option to upgrade to a higher option. They can both produce 290HP and 265-pound feet of torque on the base option. Other similarities between the 2 include:

  • Power tailgate lock
  • Fog lamps
  • Chrome bumper grill
  • Sync system

Ford F150 XL vs XLT Prices

One of the major differences between these two trims will also be the price. The is a price difference of $5,110 between these 2 trims. Going for the added layers of comfort, style and technology definitely come at a price.

The F150 XL is priced at $28,940 while the F150 XLT is priced at $35,050. This is by no means an insignificant price difference. It’s really worth considering whether the added features are a necessary requirement for you.

Which One is Better?

In essence, these two trucks appeal to 2 different people. The XL is for someone who is looking for a good, tough-as-nails work truck that is able to get work done.

It’s a rugged truck that will also offer you a great set of features that allow you to stay on par with what’s currently being available from competitors on the market.

The XLT, on the other hand, is designed for someone who is looking for the same ruggedness and ability but with an added layer of comfort and the option for a higher-performance engine.

Conclusion on f150 xl vs xlt

To cap it off, whether you go for the XL or XLT depends on who you are as a person, what appeals to you and the level of function vs comfort that you are looking for from your F150. The first model year of the XL and XLT trims was 2017. It has run from 2017 to the present where features were thrown in with each new model year. The additions ranged from function and style, engine changes, and safety features.
